Robin Gibb, one third of the internationally successful pop group the Bee Gees, has passed away at the age of 62, after a lengthy battle with cancer.


Gibb's family announced his passing with 'great sadness' in a statement to press on Sunday:"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery," reads the family statement."The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."PHOTOS: Robin Gibb - Life in Pictures

Two years ago Gibb made what he called a 'spectacular' recovery from colon and liver cancer, but a secondary cancer appeared this year, and was further complicated by a case of pneumonia.Gibb passed away on Sunday May 20, aged 62.

Gibb will be remembered for the five decades he spent topping the music charts in family-band, the Bee Gees, which generated record sales in excess of 200 million units. The group's founding members included Gibb's twin brother Maurice and older brother Barry.Maurice Gibb passed away in January 2003, as a result of similar complications with his intestine. Gibb is survived by his brother Barry Gibb, 65, his wife Dwina Murphy Gibb, and his four children. Leave your tributes below.
