Fears are mounting for the star's wellbeing after Susan Boyle broke down while meeting fans at a performance at the Rockefeller Centre in New York.

Concerns were raised when she started to behave erratically and was seen to be crying and shaking after fans handed her a gift. Boyle was later seen sucking her thumb and staring into space.

Susan shot to fame earlier this year after a video of her singing on 'Britain's Got Talent' became an internet hit. She has been struggling to come to terms with the overnight success, and completed a stint in The Priory rehab clinic after the reality show that she was discovered on ended.

Her latest emotional turn came during her present short US tour, when she was handed a patchwork quilt stitched by hundreds of people from 28 countries, including the UK, US, Mexcio, Japan and Poland.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Everyone around her is acutely aware how susceptible she is to becoming emotional when under stress. She has just undertaken a tour of America, which would put anyone under enormous pressure.

"It seems to have taken its toll and she was visibly upset. She is being closely monitored and given all the support she needs."

Susan's debut album, 'I Dreamed A Dream' has become the biggest advance selling CD in history, and is tipped to sell a million copies by the end of its first week of release on Sunday 29th November which no doubt has put a lot of pressure on the 48 year old.

Speaking on The Today Show, for whom her New York performance was recorded, Susan said: "It feels very surreal, as if it's not really happening, but it's always important to stay grounded."

Oh how we forget. How many reaching super stardom have "managed" with prescription drugs, illicit drugs, alcohol, sex... you name it. Read some memoirs of the famous. Give her a break! I just hope her minders are looking out for her. She CAN sing. Her looks are God give ...

I noticed that many people speak about her strange behaviour. Even more interesting if we look back and see that almost every outstanding artist in all fields has had some sort of strange ways. Have we already forgotten the many strange things that Michael Jackson got up to.

As a dedicated rock and punk fan, this style of singing is of no interest to me, yet when Susan is in the news or the running of a commercial for say her CD, she has the most amazing voice. Its seems to be faultless. I don't deny I am tempted to give it a good listen.

the price of being famous is very expensive no doubt about that people wanted more out of her not only her voice the whole packages. someone who manages the whole events knew that if she cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen

Susan should take her money from her debut album and enjoy life. I will certainly support her and buy her CD....I loved her singing. She should forget the limelight.
