Lily Allen has won libel damages from a tabloid over false claims she launched a bitter tirade against Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole in a French magazine.

In May, The Sun reported that the "Smile" singer had ranted about the former Spice Girl and her husband David, as well as Girls Aloud star Cole, in an interview with French publication SoFoot.

The report stated Allen had branded David and Victoria Beckham "sickening", and called the Wannabe hitmaker a "monster".

But Allen quickly denied she had even given an interview to the football magazine, insisting the comments had been fabricated.

Last month, The Sun published an apology and retraction of the allegations, with bosses accepting the quotes were false.

On Tuesday, the star was awarded substantial, undisclosed libel damages from the newspaper's publishers, News Group Newspapers, at London's High Court.

This is mostly the only type of stories one finds in the magazines. It is how they sell their magazines at an inflated price. Silly people rush out to buy them to read the latest fabricated yarn about this one and that one.

20 years ago I knew a girl who posed as a model for a teen mag. They wrote a heap of stuff she never said. They didn't even interview her, she just modeled. Also, a 'serious" local paper exaggerated another friend's interview.
