LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Sony is using Facebook's Timeline feature to tease next year's Will Smith vehicle "After Earth."
In a new viral video, an unseen narrator outlines the circumstances that led to the post-apocalyptic future that serves as the film's backdrop.
There are shades of the fake TED video that 20th Century Fox used to generate fanboy excitement for its "Alien" prequel "Prometheus," but nary a shot of Smith or his son and costar Jaden Smith.
According to the footage, an unidentified space craft crashed to earth in 1908, which allowed a family of scientists to exploit the ship to advance technology to dangerous heights, eventually triggering an environmental catastrophe.
That, in turn, led human survivors to seek out a new life on a different planet. At least it's nice to know that Mark Zuckerberg's social network has the power to sustain a global meltdown.
In the film, father and son Smith journey back to earth long after its original inhabitants have left and are met with a chilly reception. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, of "The Sixth Sense" fame, "After Earth" hits theatres in June 2013.Check out these stars and their extremely racy album covers...Check it out... »
