It was announced yesterday that Beyonce Knowles lip-synced the US national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner” at President Obama’s second inaugural address. Master Sergeant Kristin duBois, spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band confirmed that the highly animated performance was pre-recorded, as is usually standard procedure for events such as these. TMZ said that Beyonce “decided at the last minute to rely on the studio version instead of winging it in person”. The cold Washington DC weather and its effect on vocal cords and the fact that it was a large, significant occasion were considered reasons for the possible faux pas. The jury’s still out as to whether the rumours are true (the Marine Corps have since retracted their claim), but we can’t help but be a little disappointed in you, Bey!
