Well the album was called She's So Unusual so they probably felt a bit of pressure to turbo-charge Cyndi's look! There's no denying it's certainly unusual.... The album was a massive deal in 1983 and catapulted Cyndi to stardom on the back of hits like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", "All Through the Night", and "Money Changes Everything". Lauper became the first female star ever to have 4 hits in the Top 5 slots on the charts from one album. This was the makeover that launched a thousand teenage suburban imitators, and more than a few awesome halloween costumes...
