The Verve in 1996: The Verve had what is without a doubt one of the biggest hits of the 1990s 'Bittersweet Symphony'. The band's lead singer was a friend of other 90s hitmaker Noel Gallagher from Oasis, and their music certainly shares some common roots. Critic Mike Gee said of this time "The Verve, as he (Richard Ashcroft) promised, had become the greatest band in the world. ...The Verve were no longer the question mark or the cliché. They were the statement and the definition."
