The only thing better than a one hit wonder, is a one hit wonder that spawns a dance craze! The idea behind the Macarena was that it was so easy even your Gran could do it at at a Christmas party, and do it they did. At 14 weeks The Macarena enjoyed one of the longest runs atop the US Billboard charts in history and to date has sold a staggering 6.3 million copies, making it easily one of the best-selling singles of the 1990s. The follow-up Christmas Marcarena could never quite recapture the magic of the original and Los Del Rio took up their position in the constellation of one hit wonders.
