In a post on her website the star shared all the details, telling fans: "We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain."
She also explained how she and partner Gerard Piqué came to choose their new baby's name, saying in the statement "The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification."
In a nod to her partner's status as a football superstar the pair also let it be known that their son's team had already been chosen for him, "Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth."
The hospital confirmed that the baby weighed in at 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health.In the last few days the generous pair invited fans to mark their baby's birth by making donations to UNICEF in a 'virtual baby shower', "To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations ... Every expectant parent around the world shares all the same hopes and dreams for their children that we do."
