DID DELTA GOODREM RIP-OFF ARCADE FIRE'S SONG?

Aussie pop princess and goody-two-shoes Delta Goodrem has sparked the ire of indie rock fans with her latest song 'Sitting On Top of the World' (and no, it's not just because it's a song by Delta Goodrem).

Accusations have surfaced over the weekend that Delta's latest single -- currently sitting at number three on the Australian ARIA charts -- is a rip-off of Arcade Fire's 2005 hit single 'Rebellion (Lies)'.

No argument can be made for plagiarism of lyrics, as both songs are very different lyrically. Arcade Fire's lyrics are somewhat accusational with "Everytime you close your eyes/Lies, lies!" while Delta sings a more motivational tune with "Get Up, Stand Up/What you waiting for?"

Co-written with Grammy Award-winning producer John Shanks, both songs appear to share musical similarities between the base/piano riff in the lead up to each chorus.

The first to raise the issue was Darren Cross, former member of Aussie band Gerling. He took to his blog THE E.L.F. late on Friday, writing: "Can Arcade Fire sue Delta Goodrem for her new song "Sitting on top of the world" that totally rips off Arcade Fires "Rebellion/Lies". Come on people. [sic]"

Cue war on Delta's behalf, with fans jumping onto forums on the Delta Daily website, claiming never to have heard of Arcade Fire, labelling them a "no name band".

Delta and her record label, Sony Music, have yet to respond to the claims.

Listen to the tracks below and let us know what you think -- too close for comfort or reasonably distinct?

You've got to be kidding. I see no resemblance with ARCADE FIRE'S song to Delta's song at all. I have been involved in music for 15 years and find the comparison a joke.

There is some similarity but I think she will get away with it in court. Adele ripped off the Rolling Stones and I don't think they worried about it. I like both Arcade Fire's "Rebellion" and Deltas new song which I just heard here for the first time. Perhaps they could do a collaberation together. That would be great.

The tuneless backing dirge sounds similar but Deltas song actually has a sung tune and the chorus is catchy....although I wouldn't buy either.
