According to The Smoking Gun website, songstress Adele has an interesting back stage rider at her North American shows: Marlboro Lights cigarettes, European larger beer ("North American beer is NOT acceptable"), no chilli or tomato on sandwiches, and - oh - a donation to charity.
Adele has so far managed to accrue over $13,000 in donations to UK-based charity Sands on the UK and European leg of her tour, by demanding in her rider that any concert-goer who scores free tickets - via the concert promoters or venue staff - must make a minimum $20 cash donation to the charity – with "no exception to this rule".The charity of Adele's choice, Sands, supports people who have lost a baby, and also promotes research to reduce the number of still births and neonatal deaths.Other interesting points on the rider include "Squeezy" bottles of clear honey (not organic), a bottle of the "very best quality red wine" (French, Spanish or Italian) and "NO CITRUS FRUIT" (or chardonnay for her band).
The rider for Adele might be very specific, but it's a far cry from other stars such as Jennifer Lopez, who demand things like an all white room (and no, we're not kidding). This covers things such as all white couches, candles, drapes, the room, flowers, etc.While Adele may be currently resting her vocal chords after recent surgery for a vocal chord haemorrhage, it hasn’t stopped her from urging her fans to continue her charitable efforts.
The 23 year-old star took to Twitter, telling fans: "Right! Its me! I will start tweeting if 10k of u start following @drop4drop & their trip to India this wk. Its a wonderful charity. Go! A xxx" [sic].drop4drop works to help alleviate the global clean-drinking water crisis.
