While it is unclear where the rumours started, #PRAYFORADELE began trending on Twitter last night, and has fuelled news reports around the world.
While Adele’s reps have done nothing to quell the rumours, they did release this statement last night:
"It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011. She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat – and a full recovery is expected."
The 23-year-old singer's management team was contacted in light of the rumours but is yet to comment on the throat cancer diagnosis.
While it is possible that the story developed through a misunderstanding after it was revealed Adele would be having throat surgery, a doctor told MusicFeeds that in most cases, a vocal chord haemmorhage can be treated with rest.
Furthermore, the fact that throat surgery places a serious risk on any singer has lead to speculation that Adele may be afflicted by something more serious.
While Adele is a smoker, Dr. Reena Gupta, Director of the Voice and Swallowing Center in Los Angeles, has blogged that this is unlikely to cause throat cancer in someone so young.
"Although she smokes, [Adele] is 23 years old," said Dr. Gupta.
"Even if she smokes two packs per day, and has been for a decade, it is nearly impossible to develop smoking-related cancer at such a young age."
Until Adele’s reps deny this very sad diagnosis, we will take up the trend and #prayforadele.

sad.. but if she smokes then she better stop smoking 2 packs a day! I'm an ex-smoker and I still love smoking (if I was still doing it) I gave up coz I wanted too, so in the future I wouldnt be forced to give up something I liked doing (medical reasons etc) then it would be hard to give up! seems to me she's a bit cocky for her age. hope she gets better soon...
ReplyHay throat cancer can be healed in 30 to 90 days by simply gargling 3 times a day with Bi Carbinate of soda you by of the shelf at the grosser. you don't have to believe me just look it up on the internet and you will find many doctors, researchers and people just like you and me that have treated and healed throat cancer this way.
ReplyLooks like there's been an official denial of this. Which would be a relief. Seen too many young vocalists do damage to their voices, so she should take care of it.
ReplyWhatever it is, I hope she gets through it unscathed. She is one brilliant talent.
ReplyShe smokes like a chimney so I'm not surprised!..
