What sort of music does "Sky Mangel" listen to and what sort of music does Stephanie McIntosh listen to? What's rocking your world this week? Sky would listen to a band like The Grates. Or appreciate people like Janis Joplin and Jack Johnson! She’d have to make sure it was a little out there or "different".
I listen to most things. Pretty versatile with my taste, enjoy Janis myselfBut I’m into pop/rock music, like U2, Robbie Williams, Black eyedpeas, Jet, Christiana Aguilera and then artists like Sting and Jeff Buckley too!
Rocking my world this week would have to be Shakira's "Hips don't lie"
You sing, you act, what can't you do? Is there a something that you're embarrassingly bad at?
I am so bad at texting back and returning phone calls! It comes across so rude and very embarrassing, but I'm a shocker at it. Not sure if this counts but it's something that is in my life everyday. I have many annoyed friends! I love my sport but when it comes to throwing any sort of ball or object, I'm no good! Have no strength in my arm whatsoever. So you can count me out of backyard cricket! Much to my boyfriends displeasure.
Tell me about the concept behind your first music video?
The idea came from Tom Nichols (producer and co writer of album) and Anthony Rose (Director of clip). They brainstormed the layout and we all agreed that it had to be a story! Obviously being the first clip, we want to be able to go somewhere afterwards. It’s about a girl who just broke up with her boyfriend when arriving at work. She’s a waitress at some rich kids party and trying to forget about the "Mistake" she’s left behind. It's a gradual build up from being bullied by the kids, to being saved by Ryan (Carnes) whose party it is. He helps lift her spirit and ends up getting her on stage to sing her song! It’s a feel good video! It was a 16 hour shoot, but well worth it
If you were to throw a huge theme party to launch your album, what kind of theme would it be? And where's your dream venue?
I could reinvent my 18th theme which was "Safari" and have it on a hot beach in the Cook Islands! Although that has nothing to do with music or the album, I still think the Cook Islands are the most amazing, luxurious place I've been to. Otherwise in relation to music, maybe being at one of Hollywood's hottest clubs and dressing up to feel sexy!
Who are your five favourite divas?
Madonna, Mariah, Britney, Christina, Dianna Ross.
If you were a music video VJ, what videos music videos would you program?
Christina's "Beautiful", Britney's "I'm a slave for you" And almost any of J.Lo's, Kylie's or Robbie's videos. I'm always entertained by them and every clip is sexy, stylised and unique!
What's your signature karaoke tune?
Shakira "Whenever, Wherever"
What song never fails to get you on the dancefloor?
Robbie Williams "Rock DJ"
You recorded your album in lots of different cities? What's your favourite city in the world and why?
Out of the ones I've been to, definitely New York. It's everything it's made out to be and more! I'’s exciting, beautiful and is completely different to anything I’ve ever seen. Although it's busy and a little scary, you can feel the buzz and energy it holds the second you get off the plane!
As popstars go, who do you think is seriously overrated? Who's seriously underrated?
I think Lyndsay Lohan is seriously overated! I don't want to keep hearing about her social life. And I think Jessica Simpson is underrated. People forget how good a singer she really is!
Name a style icon who seriously influences your fashion tastes?
I love everything Jessica Simpson wears. She always looks amazing.
If you had to choose a neighbours co-star to duet with you, who would you choose and why?
Ben Nickolas aka: Stingray! His charming ways and good looks would grab me first. Then the fact that he can actually sing is a bonus!
Are you nervous about following in the footsteps of super successful ex-Neighbours songbirds? Have you ever consulted any of them for girly advice?
Haven't consulted any of them, but feel I have big shoes to fill as they’ve all been so successful in their own right!
What movie were you obsessed with as a kid?
The Wizard of Oz! I was lucky enough in year 9 to play Dorothy in the school musical!
Is there a story behind the album title Tightrope?
Not a story as such. But I feel like I’m walking one everyday, as life can be a juggling act!
"Mistake" is definitely more rock than pop. Who are some of your rock heroes?
That's so cool to hear you say that! Definitely Elton John. His talent and work ethic is inspiring. His a legend and in a league of his own. Rock on!
The album has been two years in the making. You've recorded all over the world. Have you enjoyed the recording process? What's been the biggest surprise?
I didn't actually enjoy it as much as I thought I would and that was a surprise in itself. It's takes a lot out of you and when all you want to do is make it right a lot of concentration is involved!! I was in and out of the Neighbours schedule so it became a juggling act very quickly. However when I was in America, that was different all together. It was in my break; therefore I was able to focus on just my singing. And being on the other side of the world knowing you're there to record an album is a pretty amazing and surreal experience.
How have you balanced your Neighbours commitments with the making of your album? What's your secret?
Auto Pilot! That’s my secret. You know you have to do it and having these two amazing opportunities fall into place at the same time isn't anything to complain about! I'm more than happy to fit both commitments in, than not have any at all.
