Kasey Chambers debuted at Number One on the ARIA album chart with her third album, Wayward Angel. This new album marks a maturity in her music, and Wayward Angel has it all... being described as ‘a little bit gritty, partly born of tradition, partly of the times. More than a little bit country, with a healthy dose of rock & roll’. Watch her new video to Hollywood here.
When LAUNCH last interviewed Kasey, she was touring in the US to support her last album release ‘Barricades and Brickwalls’, she said then of her fame, that no-one recognises her in the street. Now, after the success of her last album, people do recognise her in the street, but ‘no-one mobs her, they’re all really nice’. Kasey Chambers has risen to fame in an understated way and maybe that’s why. She is a down to earth, unaffected girl and these qualities come across in everything she does. She has sung country in the family group since the age of 10. A singer songwriter herself, she keeps it in the family, her brother produces her albums and she co-wrote three tracks from Wayward Angel with her partner.
Kasey’s previous album ‘Barricades & Brickwalls’ debuted at #4 on the ARIA chart and Kasey then went on to win three ARIA Awards - Album of the Year, Best Female Artist and Best Country Album. Kasey then went on to break an ARIA record in 2002 by becoming the first Australian country artist to simultaneously hold both the #1 single (‘Not Pretty Enough’) and Number One album (‘Barricades & Brickwalls’) positions. Having already secured a Number One on the ARIA charts with her new album it will be interesting to see what’s in store for Kasey this year.
