Yahoo!7 Music: Hey Jesse. Where are you calling from?
Jesse: I'm in the southern California desert just below Joshua tree. I'm on my porch. I just got in from a drive around the desert. Just kickin' back you know.
Y!7: Set the scene for me.
Jesse: Well, I've got my grandmothers rocking chair and I've got an old park bench made of wood and steel and it's shaped like two eagles and the American flag. It's dedicated to the US of A baby. Then I've got one of those bean bag chairs for the hippies. It's a cuddle bag and I'm a big cuddle bear so it's perfect.
Y!7: You're an old romantic aren't you?
Jesse: I love it. You know what, cuddling and touching and chasing, it's fun you know? Why be bummed? We're all going somewhere so it's nice to go with people. Because the women in my life as role models are amazing, I love women completely. My mother is my best friend. She's such a sweetheart. She's a dancer and she's hot. And my grandmothers were amazing. I like to hang out with girls like that and when they're hot, it's a bonus.
Y!7: Who have been some of your female musical rolemodels?
Jesse: Joan Jet. Suzi Quattro. Kylie Minogue – just kidding. She's hot though. Being able to look hot and sell thousands of records that's a f*#king talent right there. I love Stevie Nicks - I can't help it. I love Patsy Cline. My god, I love Chaka Chan. I LOVE Diana Ross. Tina Turner. Her version of 'Rolling on the River' is amazing. It's rock'n'roll. You can't f*#k with it. Tell me Mick Jagger doesn't want to be Tina Turner?
Y!7: He'll never have the legs!
Jesse: His moves, the way he sings into the microphone - it's totally Tina Turner.
Y!7: Does any Tina creep into your stage moves?
Jesse: Absolutely! The dynamite footsteps of rock and roll, when she struts forward, I totally cop that. I combine it with that T-Rex guitar boogie – his little dance. That's a hot move too. If you've got to learn from somebody, you may as well copy people who don't suck.
Y!7: I think there'll be a whole generation copying from you.
Jesse: Thanks baby, you're a sweet talker.
Y!7: Australia is the land of sweet talkers.
Jesse: That's why I love Australia.
Y!7: There's a rumour that you're maybe coming out here for next year's Big Day Out.
Jesse: Yes ma'am. Those rumours are true. We're trying our dog hardest to get out there because Australia has been really wonderful to us in terms of how they've accepted our music. It's about time we got over there. And it's a desert so I totally understand that.
Y!7: There's a few Oz connections going on with your band. What is it about Australia that speaks to you?
Jesse: When I was a kid some of the most influential movies of my generation came from Australia that was the first thing. Mad Max was f*#king huge. And Road Warrior from 1983 was huge on the rock generation.
Y!7: Have you seen Mick Jagger's Ned Kelly?
Jesse: Of course I have. I own that movie. It's an Englishman's shittiest Australian accent. Doesn't he sound like he's Irish! But Heath ledger. Now that is one hunk of man. Look at the superstars that Australia has given us, Angus Young, Bon Scott. Sexy motherf*#kers. I think it has a lot to do where you guys came from.
Y!7: From convicts?
Jesse: When you've just got to fight the elements and survive on your own and you've got a killer instinct you appreciate the joys of life and that's whey the music of rock'n'roll, like AC/DC is so joyous.
Y!7: You've been known to play some AC/DC covers haven't you?
Jesse: Yeah, we're actually releasing a medley I recorded up near the Joshua tree of High Voltage Rock'n'Roll and It's a Long Way to the Top.
Y!7: If you ever get to Melbourne. You'll have to talk a walk down AC/DC lane. They named a street after them.
Jesse: Have you ever seen the promotional video for that film of them on the back of the truck with the bagpipers?
Y!7: It's iconic.
Jesse: That's the sh*t that influenced me. Anyone who get's as pissed off being compared to the British as Americans do. I immediately love that sh*t.
Y!7: You should hear us when we get compared to the New Zealanders.
Jesse: Absolutely. Then it's on!
