After a marathon 18 months in the studio perfecting their album, Coldplay are back in fine form. 'X&Y' is a big album in every sense of the word. The songs are huge. The music is sometimes quiet and intimate but at other times builds to a massive, layered sound that breaks new ground for Coldplay. The lyrics are about big subjects like life and death, love and loss, about being fascinated by the world around us but also about accepting that some things can never be fully understood.
The first single off the album is 'Speed Of Sound', this song is going to be big and the film clip doesn't disappoint.
X&Y sees Coldplay building on their previous achievements while resisting the temptation to repeat themselves. "We wanted to try new things out, to move our sound along," says Jonny Buckland, Coldplay guitarist, "but the focus remains on the songs, and Chris (Martin)'s voice is sounding amazing. Everyone is playing at the top of their game."
