After only a week of it's release, Muse's fifth album, "The Resistance" has debuted at Number 1 on the ARIA Album charts and has achieved Gold status after one week.
"The Resistance" has been embraced by Australian media with Triple J giving it Album Of The Week and declaring it as "Undeniably one of the most anticipated albums of 2009, Muse's fifth album was recorded with a 30 piece orchestra that takes the band's monumental sound to a huge symphonic level" and Rolling Stone Australia (October 2009) bestowed the album with a 4 star rating stating "it's an ambitious, beautifully arranged and confidently produced set that pushes Muse in a direction that outdates their previous work."
"The Resistance" was recorded in Northern Italy over the course of the last year and was produced by the band themselves, and mixed by Mark 'Spike' Stent.
Muse formed in Devon, England in 1994 and their fusion of progressive rock, glam, electronica, and Radiohead-influenced experimentation is crafted by guitarist/vocalist Matthew Bellamy, bassist Chris Wolstenholme, and drummer Dominic Howard.
Muse's track "Supermassive Black Hole" from the album, "Black Holes & Revelations," was used for the "Twilight" soundtrack which became the film's theme song. The band have now announced that they would again contribute to the next Twilight installment, "New Moon." The song "I Belong to You", from "The Resistance," will be remixed and released as part of the new soundtrack.
Muse are currently supporting U2 on tour for some of their North American gigs.
