Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong has blasted contemporary rock bands for being "f**king boring" by not challenging themselves.

Green Day released their politically controversial 'American Idiot' album earlier this year, on which they criticise US President George W Bush. Armstrong is amazed other groups don't push themselves further. He says, "We're not just doing the same old thing again - having 13 songs and putting out a single and doing a video. That's become the new pop for a lot of rock bands. "They're so f**king boring, they don't challenge themselves. That's what rock records that I grew up on did. Let's push it to heights that nobody's doing right now, like Outkast, or even Eminem for that matter." (wenn)
